Project statement

Spectra is an ongoing project exploring light and colour inspired by the colour mixing experiments of James Clerk Maxwell and William Henry Fox Talbot. These prints are all produced using only red, yellow and blue ink. Some are reminiscent of visual phenomena produced in the brain, rather than seen by the eye. These can be induced by light deprivation (termed Prisoner's Cinema), hallucinatory substances or visual migraines.

Some of these prints were used in the film 'Phosphene' which features the Gapping Gill cave below Ingleborough in Yorkshire. I have myself experienced this phenomena whilst caving.
